Welcome to Branston Junior Academy!

Branston Junior Academy is a Community Junior School for 7 – 11 year olds. We are located in the village of Branston, which is 4 miles south east of the cathedral city of Lincoln.

The School

Branston Junior Academy is a caring and friendly village school which welcomes children for admission in the September following their seventh birthday. Our motto is "learning is a habit for life" and we provide a learning organisation where pupils and staff are able to develop to their full potential.

The school is set in spacious grounds which includes two playgrounds, a Quite Area, a 'clamber stack' and outdoor gym equipment, an environmental area, a greenhouse and a vegetable patch. All of which are used regularly by the children.

The children have ready access to a wide range of exciting learning materials in their classrooms and there are several spaces within the school where small groups of children can work with support staff or carry out independent learning activities; including the use of the school's extensive computer facilities.

Learning is the core purpose of our Academy. it applies to:

* Curricular learning - resulting in increases in knowledge, skill and understanding of differnet subjects

* Learning as a skill - learning how to learn (metacognition)

* Emotional learning - learning about oneself and others

* Citizenship learning - learning about ourselves as participants in a modern British Society and preparing ourselves for our role as global citizens.

It is for the above reasons, that we use 5 key values to underpin everything we do at Branston Juniors - Respect, Resilience, Reflection, Relationships and Responsibility. You can find out more information about this, on the webpage entitled 'Behaviour'.

The Academy has an ‘open-door’ policy as parents and members of the community are encouraged to participate in all aspects of school life such as helping in the classrooms, accompanying school outings, attending sports and social events.

During the coming year, there will be 6 main classes in the school. These will be arranged as followed:

  •  3 parallel Year 3/4 classes
  •  3 parallel Year 5/6 classes

Bad weather information/closures

Any closures will be displayed here.

We will also use our ParentHub (text message) Service to notify parents by text if the school is to close.

Lockdown Policy

In the unlikely event of a major incident outside the school buildings, the Academy has a ‘Lockdown Policy’. Should such an event arise whereby it is unsafe for people to leave the building, the Academy respectfully asks that parents/carers do not phone the school, thus keeping the phone lines clear for contact with support agencies such as the emergency services. The Academy would contact parents via Parent Hub (our emergency text service) to keep parents informed of what is happening, as and when appropriate.
